Rudy Oliver

September Athlete of the Month

Our latest 100 miler club graduate. Last week, Rudy took on the Karkloof 100miler in KZN and brilliantly placed 9th overall.

A full year of hard work, sacrifice and dedication earned him his 1st (of many we hope) finisher buckles and cement his name in ultra-running greatness. Rudels has been around MLH since the founding stages of the crew and you bet your ass if there's a crew long run, pacing or support needed, he's always one of the first to put up his hand.

Q: How long have you been with MLH? And what keeps you around?

A: So I've been with MLH from 2020 since TS Runcrew fell away. The 2 run crews have always been collaborating, so MLH was the best crew to hang on to.

Q: Road or trail? Why?

A: This is a tough one as I actually love both. The road mainly for a challenge to go get those PBs, but i have a huge respect for the trails, my new love since 2020. The trails is a place of solitude and where i can leave all my troubles and stresses behind. Lastly, trail running has become so much more than a mere passion or hobby to me. It is a transformative journey that has redefined my relationship with myself, the natural world, and the vibrant community of runners that I am privileged to be a part of. The joy, fulfillment, and sense of purpose it brings to my life are immeasurable, and I am truly grateful for the experiences it has granted me.

Q: Give us a quote

A: “The best way to gain self-confidence is to do what you are afraid to do.” – Swati Sharma
