June Athlete of the Month
Whilst we have many talented athletes in our ranks all with crazy special stories to tell this month’s theme is based on the feats of our Comrades warriors. We had many take up the journey from PMB to DBN but here are 3 (actually 4) that cracked the nod of the crew for athletes of the month. 🫡
Antonio Gambino
The comeback kid. After a disappointing 2022 edition Tony towed the 2023 start line with one goal in mind: MOER IT. ⚡️A redemption run to say the least, he looked so comfortable on the 87km journey, we wondered if he was going to turn around and head back to PMB. Besides the winners we think Antonio got more TV time than anyone else with multiple pics of him on the Telly being posted on the WhatsApp group.
Get to know your athletes of the month a little better with some fun and quirky q’s we FORCED them to answer.
1) Who's your running hero?
Eliud Kipchoge's transition from dominating track races to becoming an exceptional marathoner is a truly remarkable and awe-inspiring journey, proving that limitless potential resides within every individual. He shattered all preconceived notions and demonstrated that the human spirit knows no bounds.
2) When did your love affair with running start?
On a memorable day in May 2018, I participated in my inaugural Parkrun, which eventually evolved into a passion for conquering road and trail ultra-marathons. That one event sparked a remarkable journey of endurance and discovery, pushing my limits beyond what I ever thought possible.
3) Fave distance and why?
In my beloved backyard lies the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon, renowned as the world's most beautiful marathon, enticing both speed and beauty in its two distinct halves. A cherished favourite, this fast-paced race combines the allure of my familiar surroundings with a thrilling challenge.
